What about Fever?

Fever is the normal response of the body to illness, infections or inflammatory. It is the best (and only) treatment we have for most viral illnesses. Therefore, treatment of fever should be based on the child’s comfort.
No fever is dangerous by itself. Fevers of 103 degrees or less need evaluation and treatment based on other symptoms the child may have. The fever is only one side and often not the most important one for determining the degree of illness.
Fevers of 104 or greater, while not dangerous do need evaluation for possible causes. The majority are viral and benign but statistically the chance for a bacterial cause is increased.
Remember, as a rule, fever is beneficial to fighting infections. However, always call your pediatrician if you have questions.
